Voice Selection
Choose from voices available on your system:

Read from cursor: When enabled, TTS starts reading from wherever you click on the page rather than the beginning.
Auto-scroll: Page scrolls automatically to keep the highlighted text visible.

Basic Setup
- Click AssisT icon in toolbar
- Expand Reading Help section
- Toggle Text-to-Speech ON
- Test with

Optimized Setup for Different Needs
For dyslexia:
- Enable word-by-word highlighting
- Set speed to 0.8x - 1.0x
- Choose high-contrast highlight color (yellow or green)
- Enable sentence highlighting as well
For ADHD:
- Enable auto-scroll
- Set speed to 1.0x - 1.2x
- Enable read-from-cursor
- Choose a bright highlight color
For language learning:
- Set speed to 0.6x - 0.8x
- Enable word highlighting
- Choose a clear, natural voice

Common Use Cases
Proofreading Your Own Writing
Settings:
- Speed: 0.7x - 0.9x (slower catches errors)
- Highlighting: Word-by-word

Studying Long Documents

Troubleshooting
No Sound Playing
Solutions:
- Check system volume isn’t muted
- Verify TTS is enabled in AssisT popup
- Try a different voice in settings
- Check Chrome sound permissions for the website
- Restart Chrome
Voice Sounds Robotic
Solutions:
- Download better voices from OS settings
- Try different available voices
- Adjust pitch setting slightly (0.9 or 1.1)
- On Windows: Install neural voices from Settings
Highlighting Not Working
Solutions:
- Verify “Highlight enabled” is on in settings
- Check if page uses unusual text rendering
- Try refreshing the page
- Some PDFs may not support highlighting
TTS Stops Unexpectedly
Solutions:
- Page may have lost focus — click back on page
- Content may have ended — select new content
- Try pressing
Ctrl+Shift+Spaceto resume - Refresh page if problem persists
Wrong Language Being Used
Solutions:
- Text may be in different language than expected
- Manually select voice that matches content language
